README: Replication Package for

“Does Deposit Insurance Promote Deposit Stability? Evidence from the Postal Savings System during the 1920s” (Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Forthcoming)

This replication package contains the Stata code and underlying datasets used to generate the main tables and appendix tables in the published paper.

Contents

The package includes:

Stata .do files to replicate each table.

Data files in both .dta (Stata) and .csv (ASCII text) formats.

This README file with guidance on using the package.

Instructions

The file and folder names are organized to be self-explanatory. Each dataset and script is clearly labeled to correspond with the tables in the paper.

Table 3, Panel A

Table 4

This table summarizes descriptive information from external historical sources. It is not the output of statistical code, and is therefore not included in the replication scripts.

Table 7

Data: data_table7_hinterland.dta / .csv

Code: Davison Ramirez Postal Savings Stata Code Table 7 Final.do

Tables 9 and 10

Data: data_for_tables9and10_kansas.dta / .csv

Notes

All datasets are provided in both Stata format (.dta) and plain text CSV format (.csv) for broader accessibility.

The code is compatible with Stata version 17 and later.

Each .do file is self-contained and can be run independently to reproduce the corresponding table, assuming the working directory is set correctly.
